Material Tension explores layered material processes on canvas through the interaction of Chinese ink and acrylic, where the surface is built as a dense and unstable field.

Unlike the reduced works on paper, these paintings develop through accumulation. Layers of gesture, abrasion, and interference create shifting zones in which no single element fully dominates. The image emerges as a result of competing material forces rather than a fixed compositional structure.

The use of ink introduces moments of fluidity and diffusion, while acrylic establishes resistance and opacity. This interplay produces a continuous tension between absorption and surface, between depth and obstruction.

Across the series, the work remains deliberately unresolved. Rather than directing the viewer toward a single focal point, it sustains multiple intensities at once, allowing the image to exist as an open field of negotiation between control and instability.
