Attila Konnyu:
World Financial Center - 35th Floor Chongqing China
"Sky Meditation - Vertical Silence"
December, 2025
The solo exhibition Sky Meditation by Attila Konnyu was produced the artist's working period inside the World Financial Center, on the 35th Floor in Chongqing - one of the city’s most emblematic contemporary architectural landmarks.
During the autumn months of 2025, Konnyu worked daily in his studio on the 35th floor of the World Financial Center. From this height, the city unfolded as a continuous vertical field: movement below, atmosphere above, and silence in between.
Exhibiting within a World Financial Center is rare. Painting there - day after day while the city moved beneath the windows - is almost unheard of.

Painting as a Vertical State of Consciousness
Attila Konnyu’s painting practice does not produce images, it generates perceptual states. His works operate outside the logic of representation and instead open a vertical field of experience in which attention gradually detaches from narrative and reorganizes itself toward meditative presence. The canvas functions not as a support but as a transitional space, a sensitive membrane between silence and energy.
Verticality in Konnyu’s work is not a formal decision but an ontological proposition. The upward organizing compositions articulate experiences of weightlessness, ascent, and the suspension of time. Taoist philosophy is not referenced illustratively, but becomes perceptible through the internal proportional systems, chromatic layering, and rhythmic structure of the paintings themselves. Silence is not absence, but a productive force, from which color, gesture, and presence emerge.
In this sense, Konnyu’s painting does not operate as personal self expression, but as a universal field of attention, where the distinction between artist and viewer gradually dissolves.
About the Event

Exhibition
More than 30 works were exhibited within the World Financial Center, Chongqing , closing the circle between site, process, and presentation.
The exhibition marked a significant moment in Konnyu’s sustained relationship with China and demonstrated his ability to operate within environments traditionally reserved for economic power rather than artistic reflection.
An audiovisual collaboration with composer Zhang Hanxin accompanied the exhibition. Musical structures were developed in direct response to the visual logic of the paintings, establishing a dialogue between abstraction and contemporary sound.
Vertical Silence forms part of a broader institutional narrative surrounding Konnyu’s presence in China.
The exhibition coincided with a January 2026 interview published by China News Service, reflecting continuned institutional recognition within the Chinese cultural landscape.
The Chongqing period represents a key moment within Konnyu’s ongoing engagement with China and Asian cultural contexts.
Since his first official invitation to China in 2018, lived experience, traditional philosophy, and sustained institutional collaboration have progressively shaped his practice. In Vertical Silence, this trajectory converges with traditional Chinese concepts of balance, harmony, and stillness, resulting in a quieter, more concentrated pictorial system.
