In 2026, Hungarian-born American contemporary artist Attila Konnyu will publish a new book. This time, not a collection of works, but a deeply personal autobiography.

Following the success of his first printed volume in 2020, which focused on his artistic output, this new publication turns the spotlight inward. For the first time, Attila opens up about the life behind the art: the stories, moments, and memories that shaped his creative vision over the years.

“This book is not about technique. It’s about everything that came before the brush touched the canvas,” he says.

Written in his own words and complemented by unpublished photos, sketches, and reflections, the book will take readers on a journey through Attila’s formative years, his path as an artist, and the quieter, unseen moments that shaped his identity.

But the story extends beyond personal memory. As one of the curators writes in the book’s foreword:

At a time when the boundaries between disciplines and geographies dissolve with increasing urgency, Attila Konnyu stands as a figure of rare coherence. This publication emerges from the formative period of the artist’s work in Asia - a chapter that not only broadened his cultural dialogue but deepened his philosophical inquiry into the nature of abstraction itself.

The pages that follow chart a journey across abstract painting, experimental theatre, and cinematic production. In these realms, Konnyu does not merely create; he interrogates the structures of perception and embodiment. His works reject easy categorization, embodying instead a relentless pursuit of transformation - of matter, of narrative, of the self.

Published bilingually in English and Chinese, this volume is more than documentation; it is a symbolic bridge. It speaks to the artist’s belief in the connective power of art - art as a conduit between East and West, between material and ephemeral, between past and potential.

For those unfamiliar with Konnyu's practice, this book offers a distilled but profound entry point. For those who follow his evolution, it marks a critical threshold: the moment when cultural immersion became a philosophical method, and matter itself began to metamorphose.

Why this book matters

While Attila’s work has long spoken to universal human emotion, this autobiography marks a rare moment of vulnerability. A chance to hear the artist speak not through brushstrokes, but through stories. It’s a book for those who’ve followed his journey, for fellow creatives, and for anyone curious about the personal layers behind a life devoted to art.
