Attila Konnyu
On the Pathway of Masters
Munkacsy Museum
Hungary
2010
The exhibition On the Pathway of Masters presented at the Munkacsy Mihaly Museum offers an expansive introduction to the painting of Konnyu and situates his work within the international tradition of gestural abstraction. His paintings unfold through a subtle balance of color movement and silence creating a visual field that holds both expressive intensity and meditative presence.
Originally trained as an architect the artist approaches painting with a deep sensitivity to spatial structure and compositional rhythm. Layered painterly surfaces and intuitive gestures accumulate gradually forming visual structures in which compositional order and painterly spontaneity reinforce one another.
The exhibition places Konnyu’s works within the broader historical context of abstract painting that emerged after the war period bringing them into dialogue with major traditions of Western abstraction while also revealing affinities with the contemplative sensibility of East Asian aesthetics. In this context his painting appears as a personal artistic path that draws from the legacy of modern abstraction while articulating a distinct and contemporary visual language.
