Attila Konnyu: Art Palm Beach 2017. 20th Edition
Contemporary Art Projects USA - Booth #116
January 2017

About the Event
Hungarian creative Attila Konnyu, represented by Miami-based Contemporary Art Projects USA, was selected to exhibit his work at Art Palm Beach as part of the gallery’s curated booth.
The presentation was overseen by Chief Curator Mariavelia Savino, who highlighted Konnyu’s unique contribution to contemporary abstract painting and multidisciplinary practice.
That year, the fair celebrated its 20th edition, showcasing works by contemporary, emerging, and 20th and 21st-century modern masters.
Over 85 international galleries from 21 countries participated - presenting painting, sculpture, photography, and innovative design at one of the region’s premier international art exhibitions.
Exhibition Q&A with Attila Konnyu
Conducted by Mariavelia Savino, Chief Curator
Q: What are your expectations as you return to exhibit at Art Palm Beach?
Attila Konnyu: I live in Palm Beach, and I really love the people around this area - they are art lovers and appreciate abstract artworks. I will show my monumental gold-plated bronze sculpture, Heart of Gold (317 lb). This sculpture symbolizes the sophisticated spirit of the people in Palm Beach.
Q: How do you foresee Contemporary Art Projects USA helping you gain the most from this exhibition?
Attila Konnyu: My experience is that the team at Contemporary Art Projects USA is very professional. The gallery director, Tata Fernandez, is highly skilled, and the chief curator, Mariavelia Savino, is a very experienced, acknowledged art expert. I think this company will be very successful.
Q: Do you expect this second participation in the fair to be an even more productive experience?
Attila Konnyu: At my first participation one year ago, the audience loved my large abstract paintings. They’re waiting for my new artworks. This year, I expect the audience will be even larger.
Konnyu has built his international reputation by exhibiting throughout Europe and America. His work is part of the permanent collection of the Hungarian National Gallery in Budapest.
Attila Konyu's sculptures - influenced by Henry Moore - go further: shaped by hand as gestural abstractions, often leaving behind fingerprints in the clay.
This process gives his work a raw, organic feeling. Forms may suggest human or animal figures, though often they are fragmented or entirely abstracted. When cast in bronze, these works interpret the subject in its essence.
