Attila Konnyu is a Hungarian-born American virtuosic artist.  His multidisciplinary practice extends beyond painting to include sculpture, film, writing and architecture. He is also an experimental theatrical and movie director but primarily a painter.  He studied architecture at Ybl Miklos University.  He began his film career in the 1980s, working with Mafilm Hungarian Studios in Budapest as an artistic director.  He also worked with Hungarian Television MTV as an executive producer. Konnyu has always been an avid traveler, having visited all of the continents except Antarctica, and sampling the cultural influences of this global experience.

Konnyu’s experiences during his meditations guided him towards Expressionism.  During the three years he lived in Spain and Italy, he was fortunate enough to meet with two influential and renowned abstract expressionists Karel Appel and Emil Shumacher. After his meeting with the great artists he held in high regard, Konnyu began his new journey of gestural painting with an enigmatic aspect of his self-expression.

After moving to the U.S. in 2013, his experiences and inspirations evolved and revived his love for movie making.  With his American and European partners, he wrote, directed and produced on various projects both in Europe and the United States.  In 2018, he started introduce his art to China, where he exhibited at the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC), in Beijing, as well as several other major cities in Mainland China. Two hundred twenty million viewers around the world watched his documentary broadcast on the CCTV4 on September 22, 2019. (Attila Konnyu’s Journey to the Sichuan Opera China).
